Chores and The Student

In 3rd year Applied Psychology in IADT, students are required to collaborate together to enter a human-computer centred design or computer-human interaction competition [CHI]. Each group aim to create a prototype of some sort of application or piece of technology fitting that year’s brief, as set by the organisation.

The aim of the project is to appreciate space in the house. Also, to share awareness and  appreciation of what is needed to manage a household.

The project is aimed at secondary school students to ease the transition from home life to college life or independence, i.e., new responsibilities of budgeting, cooking, cleaning etc….

A bit about the game

Using Adobe Flash, UX design, psychological principals and research, a miniature game was created introducing players to cooking and budgeting tasks. The game uses an iconic 50's/futuristic visual design with a mother-figure as a navigator along with catchy upbeat music from the 50s and 60s.

This was a group project and is not solely the work of Catherine Friend.
